Big Announcement

In wine there is wisdom, in beer there is freedom, in water there is science. Water, yeast, hops and grains are the four main ingredients in creating beer. In an attempt to create the perfect brew, master brewers can become obsessed with a particular ingredient. This obsession for perfection can turn into a rabbit hole. Similar to Alice in Wonderland, the journey down the rabbit hole can be quite the trip of uncertainty, inspiration and bizarre discoveries. For the past year, Hyperion has obsessed over these ingredients with one above all captivating our attention…water.

In 2017, our team made a conscious choice not to install a water filtration system in our brewery. Call it naivety, call it inexperience, or call it curiosity. We’ve spent a year and a half brewing with true Jacksonville water. Well guess what happened? We made good beer. Hard to believe but Jacksonville’s water profile can produce a good beer, one that people will return to drink in the taproom. However, only certain styles of beer can thrive in a hard water environment. We found that using city water does not (a) produce an excellent beer, (b) provide reliable and
consistent water profiles, and (c) does not allow a brewery to perfect recipes that can be scaled for distribution.

So we are doing what we do best: listening to our customers, our critics and responding to make our beer better, bolder and as always a little rebellious. We are excited to finally announce that in April 2019 Hyperion is installing a Reverse Osmosis Water Filtration System (RO). We’d like to thank our colleagues at Wicked Barley for allowing us to practice, ask all of our stupid questions and take the first steps in understanding how to manipulate our water profile enhancing our beer experience for our guests.

We’re thrilled to become one of the few breweries in Jacksonville that will be producing beer with an RO system. It’s time to bring on the Double IPA’s, Pale Ales and refine our # 1 beer: Selene Citrine, blood orange blonde. Join our journey and Follow us on Facebook and Instagram at Hyperion Brewing Company. We’ll be sharing pictures, videos, live streams and special events to give you a chance to stay involved along the way.

Behind every amazing brew at Hyperion Brewing Company there are a variety of techniques to ensure
we’re meeting our mission of producing bold, rebellious beer.
One technique is to source our ingredients from vendors who align with our standards. At Hyperion, we
too #shoplocal.

Check out these amazing vendors who we partner with consistently and some of the beers you can find

Maybe you've seen one of these adorable Tuk Tuks on the road at Jax Beach; maybe you've never seen one before. As of June 19th, 2019, Stephanie Dale and Steven Dix are bringing their unique tour concept to the Jacksonville Urban Core.

There are lots of great tours available throughout your favorite urban core neighborhoods but we wanted to bring your attention to one in particular. The Urban Core Brewery Tour.

Each tour includes an expert guide, pick-up, three beverages at each venue (based on package), and a diverse selection of beverage companies to visit...not just breweries. Explore this clever concept and take a friend, you'll be sure to get a few side glances from bystanders on the road!

By now you've probably heard about our ultimate flight called "Big Jim." This ultimate flight includes 6 ounces of all 15 of our draft beers. Fourteen of the drafts are always available to the public, but sometimes the 15th tap is reserved for our elite Firm members. As a non-firm member, Big Jim is the only way to taste the exclusive 15th tap. We decided to name the Big Jim after the copper steam whistle located in Springfield.

The Big Jim whistle blows four times a day: 7am, Noon, 1pm and 5pm. Built in 1865, the times were chosen to signal that it's time to head to work, lunch beginning and ending, and the end of work. The whistle can be heard within a 15-mile radius.

But Big Jim did more than tell us the time. It was blown to signal the end of both World Wars. It also warned the residents of Jacksonville of the Great Fire of 1901 and marked the arrival of electricity to the city.

Built by and named after James Patterson, Big Jim is still making history as a Jacksonville and Springfield landmark. Located at 1st and Main.

*Due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have ceased serving the Big Jim at this time as it requires guests to share glasses*

The Firm is our private, invitation-only, supporter-group membership. Modeled after Mug Clubs from our colleagues in the industry, we wanted a core group of individuals that could provide continued feedback of their experience with our brewery, become our first and sustained regulars in the taproom, and be our biggest cheerleaders as our brewery continues to grow and innovate the experience of craft beer. To show our continued thanks to the group we offer many benefits including:

An exclusive, rotating beer identified by a special tap handle that is served to ONLY members of The Firm

Ability to share FIRM beer with friends or family in the taproom, as long as member is on-site and paying the tab

$1 OFF all beers, all the time

A custom designed t-shirt each year

A special "Firm" branded glass at the brewery for your drinking pleasure

First  access to beer releases (minus beers released through our Helios Brewer's Experience program)

Early access or VIP access to special events

20% off merchandise

Free Beer Garden rental for Firm Member's birthday

Access to the Owner and Head Brewer via a quarterly meeting, business strategies discussed

Access to our Firm Member Facebook Group where the best and the worst of ideas get discussed

To keep this group elite, we do have some requirements of our Firm members. We only allow 50 members. All members must be "regulars" in the taproom. We monitor how much you participate through our POS system where you have a unique profile that grants you access to all of your discounts. Firm members are asked to attend four quarterly meetings where new products, services and business ideas are discussed in private. If we don't hear your voice then we're missing valuable insight and feedback on your experience in the taproom, the beer selection, and events. Plus, you'll get a free beer for attending!

Yearly fees for The Firm membership are $100. Members are offered to renew each year starting in November. If you’re interested in joining the group, please let our staff know.

These rules are in good faith and all obligations are within reason. If any member has difficulty meeting a request, the door to ownership is always open. Members of The Firm are more than patrons they are a part of the Hyperion family!

NEWS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Jacksonville, Florida
 - March 28, 2017  - Hyperion Brewing Company announces it’s grand opening is scheduled for Friday, May 19, 2017 in historic Springfield. This will be Jacksonville’s first Nano-Brewery. The new brewery will serve a variety of beer styles, traditional and innovative, on a 1BBL system, ensuring there is an offering for each guest to enjoy.

A Nielson Household Panel Survey stated the primary reason consumers purchase craft beer is to experiment with different styles or flavors. In response to that survey, Hyperion Brewing will serve a rotating tap list without a “core” group of beers. “We prefer flights to flagships. We believe in freedom of choice.” Owner, Alexandra McKeown says, “Our goal is to let the public decide what our core beers should be. We will use our POS system data and feedback from guests in the taproom to determine which beers to distribute in the future.”

The Grand Opening will kick off on Friday, May 19 with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 4:30 p.m. Doors will officially open at 5:00 p.m. with the first fifty guests set to receive a free branded flight glass and ticket for a free beer at a later date. Springfield based Eddis and Sons Food Truck will be in attendance to serve up legitimate, Philadelphia-style cheese steaks. The opening also leads directly into the Historic Springfield Tour of Homes hosted by SPAR, Springfield Preservation and Revitalization, on Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21 from Noon – 5:00 p.m.

Hyperion Brewing will be open during the Tour of Homes.Hyperion Brewing will have fifteen taps, however, there will be a limited selection of it’s own beers available. “We’ll be brewing at a break-neck pace to have as many of our beers ready for the grand opening as possible,” says Head Brewer Troy. The brewery will offer Crowler cans to allow guests to take beer off-premise. Patrons can purchase up to two Crowlers per person during the grand opening weekend.

The Jax Beer Bus has partnered with Hyperion Brewing Company to make transportation from the beaches area to the brewery safe and convenient. The Jax Beer Bus will pick up from Green Room Brewing Company at 4:30 p.m., 6:15 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. All guests must be 21 years or older. Tickets are $15.00 round-trip and include a ticket for a free beer from Hyperion Brewing Company at a later date. The Jax Beer Bus will be BYOLB, “Bring Your Own Local Beer.”

If you have driven down Main Street in the past week you may have noticed that a certain building has been made-over into something tall, dark and handsome. Well, that building is ours! We've been incredibly busy working on Hyperion for the past year, though up until now most of it has been paper work and our tireless effort has been visible only to our team. At last that time has passed and we are pleased to announce that construction has begun at 1740 N. Main St!

With the help of the amazing design team over at The Business Bar, we came up with a way to make a big impact for our coming soon announcement. From mock up to reality check out the process photos below. If you like this project there is a good chance you'll enjoy some of the other work The Business Bar  has done before or has in the works. It's not official, but we are moving forward. On August 1st, 2016 we let SPAR, Springfield Preservation and Revitalization, announce a statement to the community of Springfield indicating our intentions to open Hyperion Brewing Co. in the area. We worked with Petra Realty to sign a temporary agreement allowing us to move forward with the rezoning of the property while we continue to negotiate the terms of our lease. It's been a long process looking for the perfect space to utilize for Hyperion and we're thrilled to be working with the Petra team to ensure we create a space we can use for many years to come.

We'll be looking for the support of the surrounding neighborhood throughout the rezoning process. If you live in Springfield...we need your help!
